Social Media Panel Discussion

On July 19th, 2011, the NYC HDI local chapter members met at Robert Half Technology for a panel discussion on social media. The following is a description of the the meeting panel and topic. The panel was made up of three members who presented various viewpoints within their realm of experience.

Patrick Bolger, Chief Evangelist, Hornbill
Paul Flaherty, Regional VP, Robert Half Technology & The Creative Group

“Tweets and “likes” are becoming more beneficial to business, a June 20th Robert Half Technology report suggests. More than half (51 percent) of CIOs surveyed said they permit employees to use social media sites like Twitter and Facebook on the job as long as it’s for business purposes, a figure that has increased over the past few years. But while firms may be more open to the business applications of social media, more than one out of three (31 percent) organizations still prohibit it completely at the office…based on telephone interviews with more than 1,400 CIOs from companies across the U.S. with 100 or more employees.” Source

NYC HDI has assembled a distinguished panel to discuss the following

• What is the value proposition of social networking in the work place?
• Is there a formula for successfully implementing social networking tools?
• What potential benefits can social networking tools provide?
• Are these tools being rolled out in a manner similar to previous IT projects?
• What are some of the most common mistakes that organizations make implementing social networking tools?
